Mike Jamieson – Bio
Mike was born and raised in White Rock, BC. Attending Ocean Cliff Elementary and then Elgin Park Secondary, Mike always had a love for sports that was ingrained in him by his family. His grandpa played basketball for Simon Fraser University and his uncle was an Olympian in diving.
Mike fell in love with the sport of volleyball in high school and won a provincial championship as a player for his school. Throughout high school he represented his province as a member of Team BC Volleyball multiple times, competed in the Junior Olympics for volleyball and then attended Camosun College to play volleyball.
After graduating from Camosun Mike transferred to UVIC to pursue a degree in physical education. There was no volleyball program at UVIC so Mike leaned on his multi-sport days from high school and earned a spot on the rugby team. He performed well enough to receive an invitation to try out for the U21 Canadian rugby team but wasn’t fortunate or experienced enough to make the world cup squad roster.
Mike then returned home and became a teacher at his alma mater Elgin Park Secondary. He coached volleyball at the school, in the community for White Rock Volleyball Club and for Team BC Volleyball. His focus in his early teaching days was on coaching rugby and building the school program back up to the levels it was when he was a student at Elgin. Mike returned the Elgin rugby to some of its glory days winning multiple Surrey championships, a Fraser Valley championship and a BC Championship as a coach.
He went on to coach provincial teams for BC Rugby on multiple occasions, as well as U18 National teams and coached the Canadian U19 rugby league team to a 4th place finish at the U19 Commonwealth Games in Scotland. Mike was recognized for his efforts by receiving the 2017 BC Rugby coach of the year award.
Eventually Mike stepped away from coaching rugby to focus on the birth of his first daughter. After a year out of coaching Mrs. Jamieson had seen enough of him and encouraged him to go back into coaching. This time Mike decided to focus on volleyball. He started his own volleyball club called the Crescent Beach Boys and ran volleyball camps for elementary and high school students.
Under his guidance the boys’ volleyball program at Elgin rose to prominence, competing in three provincial championship finals and winning two. After three straight undefeated seasons and a provincial championship win Mike decided it was time for him to step away from teaching and focus on his two young daughters.
Fast forward to now, Mike has been working in real estate development and sales for the last decade and has decided to create the Showtime Volleyball program to try and inspire a love for the game of volleyball for young athletes, with the two more important athletes being his daughters.
